The bolt carrier group is the heart of the AR-15’s direct impingement operating system. It contains the bolt, bolt carrier, firing pin, cam pin, and firing pin retaining pin — all the components that chamber, fire, extract, and eject each round. Anderson Manufacturing BCGs are machined to mil-spec dimensions, ensuring compatibility with standard AR-15 and AR-10 upper receivers and barrels from any manufacturer. Bolts are produced from Carpenter 158 steel and magnetic particle inspected (MPI) before assembly to detect surface and subsurface defects. Carriers are machined from 8620 steel and heat treated to mil-spec hardness. Finish options across the Anderson lineup include phosphate for standard mil-spec corrosion resistance, nickel boron for improved lubricity and easier cleaning, and nitride for a harder, more corrosion-resistant surface. A full-auto profile carrier is standard across the Anderson BCG lineup and is compatible with all semi-automatic AR-15 lower receivers. For builders assembling an AR-15 from components or for owners replacing a worn BCG, an Anderson Manufacturing BCG machined to mil-spec tolerances cycles predictably across standard carbine, mid-length, and rifle-length gas systems when paired with the correct caliber barrel.
